How Much Traveling for 100 Days Costs
On September 2, 2016 I took the leap for a long term sabbatical from cubicle nation.
In case you're thinking about doing something similar, I thought it'd be helpful to show you exactly how much the whole trip cost me.
Here's the details!
I traveled for 102 days. 58 days were spent road tripping the Western US in my Scion Xa I bought for $900. And 44 days in Indonesia baby sitting a surf resort, and enjoying a small island off the coast of Bali called Nusa Lembongan.
Let's jump in to the numbers! Here's my spending month over month.
That's a total of $5,170.15 or an average of $1,520/mo.
During the trip there were a few expenses I easily could have done without.
A quick list of them are:
Silly newbie air traveling mistakes. $200
Two plane tickets gifted to my sister and her boyfriend. $690
Added costs for boat trips, personal chefs and good food while at the surf resort. $300
Without these costs, my total spending would have been $3,980 or $1,170/mo. And that is still living it up!
If I were to continue that rate for a year, that'd be $14,250 for a year of travel.
Here's a few pics from the trip.
Personally I found that after a few months traveling lost a bit of its luster. At that point I was ready to come home, be with family and friends and create again.
I'm really happy I took this time to travel. I'm even happier because crazy enough, I came home after traveling with more money than when I left.
All in all, I'm confident you could travel your brains out for less than $1,000/mo. So if the travel bug has been biting you, and you've got the funds covered, and those safety margins built it's definitely worth giving a go!
